Troubleshooting RFDDG1 Spectrometer/Histogram

Deb Baddorf

Troubleshooting  RDLAT1  port 1 SPECTROMETER
     TSM$DIRECTORY:WH12W_SPECTROMETER.TXT has terminal server port setup
     Anna's program:  RFD$DISK1:[DISPLAY]HISTOGRAM.COM
This is a real black magic setup. Between each item you try here, have Anna Pla try her program.
Or, you can use another window and run it yourself, I think: Log into RFDDG1 as sysmanager, set
default to RFD$DISK1:[DISPLAY] and type @HISTOGRAM. See if the process which starts up sticks
around for more than 5 seconds! And type file .LOG (which gets appended to each time, so count
the error blocks). IF you get it to stay running, you probably want to stop it, and have Anna run
it, so she is the owner for the long term.

TERMINAL SERVER PART:

On node BADORF or DUMBO (nodes with TSM licenses): $ TSM0 !that's a Zero TSM> USE SERVER RDLAT1 TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> SHOW USER ! port 1 should be connected TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> SHOW PORT 1 !should look like: +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Port 1: (Remote) Server: RDLAT1 | | | |Character Size: 8 Input Speed: 9600 | |Flow Control: XON Output Speed: 9600 | |Parity: None Modem Control: Disabled | | | |Access: Remote Local Switch: None | |Backwards Switch: None Name: SPECTROMETER | |Break: Disabled Session Limit: 2 | |Forwards Switch: None Type: Hard | | | |Preferred Service: None | | | |Authorized Groups: 59- 61,100-102 | |(Current) Groups: 59- 61,100-102 | | | |Enabled Characteristics: | | | |Autoprompt, Broadcast, Input Flow Control, Loss Notification, | |Message Codes, Output Flow Control, Security, Verification | +----------------------------------------------------------------------+

TSM_SVR_RDLAT1>  SET PRIV    (quartz)
TSM_SVR_RDLAT1>  LOGOUT PORT 1
TSM_SVR_RDLAT1>  SHOW PORT 1

!The setup file for the port may be rerun, just to be sure: TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> SET PRIV (quartz) TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> @WH12W_SPECTROMETER.TXT (or @TSM$DIRECTORY:WH12W_SPECTROMETER.TXT) TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> LOGOUT PORT 1 TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> SHOW PORT 1 TSM_SVR_RDLAT1> EXIT

VMS LEVEL STUFF:

On node RFDDG1, login as sysmanager or system. $ LATCP SHOW PORT LTA1 !should look like: +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Local Port Name: _LTA1: Local Port Type: Application (Queued) | |Local Port State: Inactive | |Connected Link: | | | | Target Port Name: SPECTROMETER Actual Port Name: | | Target Node Name: RDLAT1 Actual Node Name: | | Target Service Name: Actual Service Name: | | | +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

$ SHOW DEV LTA1 /FULL +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Terminal LTA1:, device type unknown, is online, record-oriented device, | | carriage control, device is busy. | | | | Error count 0 Operations completed 2| | Owner process "" Owner UIC [$SYSTEM,SYSTEM]| | Owner process ID 00000000 Dev Prot S:RWLP,O:,G:,W:RWL| | Reference count 0 Default buffer size 80| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

(this won't show any OWNER PROCESS or OWNER PROCESS ID unless it is currently working right, in which case you wouldn't be doing this!! And it won't say DEVICE IS BUSY if it isn't working.)

$ SHOW TERM LTA1

+---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Terminal: _LTA1: Device_Type: Unknown Owner: No Owner | | | | Input: 9600 LFfill: 0 Width: 80 Parity: None | | Output: 9600 CRfill: 0 Page: 24 | | | |Terminal Characteristics: | | Interactive No Echo No Typeahead No Escape | | No Hostsync TTsync Lowercase No Tab | | Wrap Scope No Remote No Eightbit | | No Broadcast No Readsync No Form Fulldup | | No Modem No Local_echo No Autobaud Hangup | | No Brdcstmbx No DMA Altypeahd No Set_speed | | No Commsync Line Editing Insert editing No Fallback | | No Dialup No Secure server No Disconnect No Pasthru | | No Syspassword No SIXEL Graphics Soft Characters Printer port | | Application keypad ANSI_CRT No Regis No Block_mode | | Advanced_video No Edit_mode DEC_CRT DEC_CRT2 | | No DEC_CRT3 No DEC_CRT4 VMS Style Input | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+

(this won't show any OWNER, USERNAME, or REMOTE PORT INFO unless it is currently working right, in which case you wouldn't be doing this!!)

To re-setup the whole works, you can: $ LATCP DELETE PORT LTA1 $ @rfddg1$startup:portcreate $ @rfddg1$startup:termchar $ @rfddg1$startup:termprot Run TSM0 and LOGOUT PORT 1 again.

Then if it still doesn't work, wait overnight and maybe it'll correct itself (it did 7/13/93).
