lenchs(_c)

	length.i4.v = lenchs(string.i1a.r [,max_length.i2.r])

	length.i4.v = lenchs_c(string.i1a.r [,max_length.i4.v])

	This routine will return the length of a character string
	terminated by a null ASCII character (a zero byte). The maximum
	string length to be searched is specified by the argument
	"max_length". If this argument is omitted, a default maximum
	length of 80 characters is assumed. If no null character is
	found, the string length is set equal to the search length.
	(Note: This is an archaic entry point. It has been replaced by
	str_length_c.)

	string		ASCII string
	[max_length]	maximum allowable return length (default is 80)
			(Note: If a value of 0 is passed, maximum length
			 will be set to infinity for a C string or the
			 descriptor length field value for a string
			 passed by descriptor.)

	This function returns status values as follows:

	length of the passed string
