strncmx

	diff.i4.v = strncmx(string1.i1a.r, string2.i1a.r, nchar.i4.v,
			    dntcmp.i1.v)

	This routine will compare 'nchar' characters from 'string1' to
	those from 'string2', and will return a value of FALSE if all
	characters in the two strings match. If the strings don't
	match the difference of the first two nonmatching characters
	is returned. If either string contains the character 'dntcmp'
	at a given index, a match will be indicated for that particular
	index.

	string1, string2	strings to compare
	nchar number of characters to compare
	dntcmp			wildcard character

	This function returns status values as follows:

	FALSE			the strings are identical
	otherwise difference between first two nonmatching
				characters
