Looking up alloys B169 C61400 & B171 C63000, I see they have increased amounts of Al, Ni & Fe. Does the addition of these elements change the thermal conductivity significantly from B187 C11000? Should the FEM take this into account?

I'm not finding a supplier that produces C19400 in 1" bar sizes, only thin strips.
I'll keep looking.
Wondering if we ought to investigate a stainless vacuum shell with a copper heat sink inside it.

Ok, I'll take a look on that.
For End view #1, 0.25" SS and 0.75" Cu, how is energy distrubuted between these two materials ? Are they distributed as 25% for SS and 75% accordingly ??
since we've assumed beam spot=1"x4cmx24 cm . This 1" thick now is 0.25" ss + 0.75" cu.
ps. I've meet Milorad Popovic this morning. He thinks there might be some portion of enegy will go to the steel section. He is trying to find that out .. FYI

also, for #1 and #3 all is SS 304, except a EXTRA copper top plate,either inside or outside ?
For # 2 all copper material with a 0.5" side wall ?

End View #1 all the energy would hit the SS first and then migrate to the Cu.
#3 all the energy would hit the Cu first and migrate to the SS.
#1 and #3 are all 1/4" SS except for the extra Cu of .75" thickness.
#2 is all Cu with 0.5" bottom and sidewalls and 1" top.

such that I can apply the energy deposition accordingly.
