1 DESCRIPTION
The one-wide CAMAC 187 module provides digital output control for applications requiring moderate amounts of control data. The module furnishes 16 words of 16 bit data with associated address and strobe lines for external latching. Some amount of digital monitor is also accepted.
The module has been developed to effect control of new mountain ranges boxes that have been designed by Stan Tawzer. Each of these new boxes requires nearly three words of control data and provides three bits of status. Accordingly, a single 187 module could support up to five mountain range boxes. Development of the module was initiated to effect a significant saving of CAMAC crate slot useage that would otherwise be necessary if already developed modules were used.
The mountain range boxes do not have latch capability. To provide necessary demultiplexing and latch capability, a NIM module has also been designed to fulfill these requirements. All connections between the 187 module, the NIM module, and the mountain range box(es) can be realized with ribbon cable to facilitate implementation.
All signals from the 187 module are active high and TTL compatible. Address and data for each output word are normally gated out for ten microseconds. A one microsecond strobe pulse is normally issued eight microseconds after address and data are stable. CAMAC read or write operations to the on-board cache memory may alter the time that data is stable before strobe. Data will, however, be stable at least five microseconds before strobe. Control lines may be terminated with 1K ohm resistors. The address and strobe outputs may be terminated with 100 ohms.
Upon power-up or Z*S2 of the module, LAM is asserted and the output strobe is inhibited until receipt of the F(16)A(15) or F(26)A(0) operation. LAM will also be asserted if the output strobe is inhibited by the F(24)A(0) operation.
Monitor is effected by multiplexing a single bit of data to the 187 module for each unique state of the address lines. These bits will be latched, irrespective of the state of LAM, and organized as a single 16 bit word of status.
2 CAMAC 187 OP CODES
All codes return module Q and X immediately. This module may assert LAM.
