        1 DESCRIPTION
The one-wide CAMAC 284 module provides basic digital
input and output control facilities. The module furnishes 16
bits of pulsed control and 16 bits of static monitor. The
printed circuit board for this module provides a variety of
input and output conventions that are easily modified for the
end user. This module is nearly equivalent to the CAMAC 181
and 184 modules. It is distinguished by pulsed control bit
        outputs rather than static outputs.
The inputs may be configured as either active high or
low. This is accomplished by certain chip substitutions and
jumper relocations. The control bit output drivers are
74F3037 chips which have good source and sink capabilities.
Selection of these chips also avoids the latch-up problem
experienced with the 75446 drivers that is exhibited when
        these devices are powered off.
The monitor lines are TTL compatible and are normally
active high with 1000 ohms to ground terminated inputs.
Active low inputs and pulled-up inputs are available options
to the user. An opto-coupled monitor input option is also
        available.
The pulsed outputs, nominally .75 second in duration, are
also TTL compatible. These outputs are not terminated or
pulled-up at the module. It is suggested that these lines be
appropriately terminated at the external receiver. As is the
case for the monitor lines, the pulsed control outputs may be
configured as either active high or low. The module is
normally provided with active low outputs. Upon clear command
or powering-up, all control lines are set to the off state.
Configuring the outputs as static rather than pulsed is also
        available as an option.

        2 CAMAC 284 OP CODES
All codes return module Q and X immediately, except
as noted. This module never asserts LAM.

            ---------
This command is a logical or with
Z*S2 and power-up clear. It resets
the pulsed control outputs to the
                        off state.
            F(16) A(0) Write Control Word (* Conditional Q)
            ----------
                        W16 (MSB) - (LSB) W1

                        C15 - Control Word - C0
              * Q is not returned if the outputs are still
                 pulsing from a previous F(16) A(0) operation.
Q is always returned if the outputs are con-
figured as static rather than pulsed.

        4 CAMAC 284 MODULE - FRONT PANEL
The CAMAC 284 module has the following front
                panel features:
             N led: Red (stretched)
Output Active: Yellow led (not stretched)

        5 SPARES
A supply of CAMAC 284 operational spares is maintained on
the second floor of the Linac Annex. Spares are normally
provided with active high monitor inputs terminated with 1000
ohms to ground. Pulsed outputs are normally active low with
pulse duration set to .75 second +/- 10%. Given the hardware
options of the 284 module, replacement of an operational
module requires careful attention to implemented options if
        present.

        6 INPUT/OUTPUT OPTIONS
For active low inputs - substitute 74LS541 at IC
        Locations #29 and #30 and change 1K ohm pull-downs to 1K ohm
pull-ups by means of jumper option.
For active high outputs - substitute 74LS541 at IC
Locations #17 and #18 and change the pre-driver 470 ohm
pull-downs to 470 ohm pull-ups by means of jumper option.
For static control outputs, ground patch points P1 and
P2. The front panel "Output Active" led will also be on for
        this selected option.
For utilization of the opto-coupled inputs, refer to the
schematic. The Opto Common connection at I/O 17L is common to
coupler anodes of monitor lines M15 thru M8. The Opto Common
connection at I/O 17R is common to coupler anodes of monitor
lines M7 thru M0. Applied monitor voltages will determine the
values of R1 and R2 associated with the couplers.
