Graphical Display of SWIC Data (SwicDisplay)

The Graphical Display of SWIC Data application (SwicDisplay) will be an X Window application that will graphically display from selected SWICs.

SwicDisplay will have three ways of displaying data: one multiple-SWIC mode, and two single-SWIC modes. In the multiple-SWIC mode, the user selects a set of SWICs. For each SWIC, a single scan will be displayed (the same scan for each SWIC). Each scan will be displayed as two histograms, one for the horizontal component, and one for the vertical component. The user will be able to select both the SWICs to be displayed, and the scan.

In the first single-SWIC mode, All ten scans of a single swic will be displayed. The other single-SWIC mode will allow the user to display several spills of the same scan. The user may switch modes at any time. The attached screen dumps show SwicDisplay in the first single-SWIC mode.

Features are to include (in no particular order):

• On line help.
• If a SWIC returns an error code, an appropriate message will be displayed.
• The user will be able to control the appearance of the histograms. Possibilities will include:
  • Solid black bars (figure 1).
  • Outlined bars (figure 2).
  • Bars alternating between the above two (figure 3).
  • Diamonds (figure 4).
  • Step function (figure 5).
  • Simple line (figure 6).
• A dark vertical line will be drawn between the two center wires of the SWIC. (This is not shown in the accompanying screen dumps.)
• The user will be able to specify that a (thin) vertical line be drawn through a particular bar of the histogram. This will allow the user to ``mark'' wires or positions that are of interest. Up to ten such lines may be specifiied. (These lines are not shown in the accompanying screen dumps.)
• The following information will be shown along side each SWIC:
  • The text associated with the SWIC.
  • The vertical and horizontal gain.
  • The hold and charge times.
  • The wire spacing.
  • The high voltage.
  • The position of the SWIC (in or out).
  • A time stamp, indicating when the data was collected.
• The reading from a SWIC, or set of SWICs, can be saved to a file, for later viewing. The user will be allowed to specify explanatory text that will be saved along with the data.
• There will be a print screen button. Pressing this button will send a copy of the screen to a PostScript printer selected by the user.
• Any parameter(s) set by the user will be automatically saved in the resource file.
